In the third year of the Clone Wars and at the beginning of the Imperial Era, Darth Sidious—the Dark Lord of the Sith who was publicly known as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine of the Galactic Republic—sent his apprentice, Darth Vader, on a mission to the lava planet of Mustafar to kill Viceroy Nute Gunray and the Separatist Council, the wealthy and influential backers of the late Count Dooku and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Sidious, who secretly controlled the Separatist Alliance as part of his plot to take over the galaxy, had sent the Separatist Council to Mustafar under the guise of protecting them. When Vader arrived, however, he assassinated both the Viceroy and each member of the Separatist leadership in order to bring an end to the Separatist rebellion against the Republic. As Vader arrived on Mustafar, Chancellor Palpatine publicly declared himself as the galaxy's Emperor and transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire.

Vader contacted his master after the Separatist Council members were killed, and the Dark Lord told him to shut down the Separatist Droid Army. In doing so, the Clone Wars came to an end.

Prelude[]

Prior to the mission, the new Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, had already carried out many dastardly deeds in the name of the Sith, betraying the Jedi Order and using Palpatine's Clone Army to attack the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Through these acts, Vader had almost wiped out all threats to his master's plans of a Galactic Empire, the last threats being any surviving Jedi Knights and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Believing that their Clone Troopers could deal with any Jedi that survived Order 66, Palpatine ordered Vader to travel to the lava planet of Mustafar to eliminate the Separatist Council members, who were in hiding on the planet.

The Mission[]

As ordered, Vader killed the Separatist leaders one by one, starting with the Neimoidian Guards and the Battle Droids. He then moved onto Denaria Kee, a Neimoidian Aide, Po Nudo and Passel Argente. Nank Tun went next, followed by Shu Mai and Cat Miin. Tikkes, and San Hill. Then, Vader targeted Poggle the Lesser next followed by Rute Gunnay. Inside the conference room, Rune Haako pleaded for his life but did not succeed and was killed. Vader finished off Wat Tambor and finally killed Nute Gunray last. Vader was also known to kill a Geonosian Aide belonging to Poggle the Lesser and any other guards or droids in the facility.

Aftermath[]

With all of the members of the Separatist Council assassinated at the hands of Darth Vader, Palpatine was able to successfully reorganize the Galactic Republic into a Galactic Empire, placing himself the new Galactic Emperor of the galaxy.

As for the rest of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, their Battle droid forces were greatly depleted, following their ordered deactivation from Darth Sidious. Any Separatists that either still had battle droids under their command, such as General Kalani's droid army on Agamar, would go into hiding, forming individual holdouts against the new Galactic Empire, with many of which being destroyed by the Empire's new Imperial Army, led by Darth Vader.
