The TIE/ln space superiority starfighter, also referred to as TIE/LN Fighter, TIE Fighter or just Ties (in plural), was the signature starfighter of the Galactic Empire. The "ln" in the name stood for "line edition".

History Edit

The TIE/ln succeeded the V-Wing of the late Republic/early Empire as the government's stock military fighter. Five years after the end of the Clone Wars, this starfighter model was in use, but was considered a new design and was not widely spread amongst the Empire's forces at the time.

The TIE/lns were mass-produced in Sienar Fleet Systems factories all over the Empire's territories, including the frontier world Lothal. The Empire's stock of TIE Fighters grew to become the most commonly seen air/space units of the Imperial armed forces.

This fighter model saw action in a number of famous battles of the Galactic Civil War, among which the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Endor. It inspired an entire line of variant models, such as the TIE Interceptor and the TIE Bomber.

30 years after the Battle of Endor, the First Order used their own TIE Fighter model based on the Empire's TIE/ln.
