Vulture-Droid

The Variable Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mark I, better known as the Vulture droid, was a type of droid starfighter used by various factions before the formation of the Galactic Empire.

Description[]

The Vulture could transform from an airborne unit to a ground-based one, letting its sides split into four legs. It could therefore serve as both an army patrol unit and a starfighter.

History[]

Vultures Teth

Early models of the Vulture droid were used by their creators, the Xi Char, but many were later sold to the Trade Federation and saw use during the Invasion of Naboo. Vulture droids later became the main unit of starfighter in the Confederacy of Independent Systems navy. Hyena bombers, created by Baktoid Combat Automata, were based off the vulture droid's design.

At some point during the Clone Wars, a squad of at least five vulture droids were reprogrammed by Jaybo Hood on the planet Iego and used to help a pair of Jedi escape the planet. Like most battle droids, the Vulture droids in the Separatist Navy were deactivated when Darth Vader deactivated the entire droid army remotely from Mustafar. Some Vulture droids were later used to fight against the Empire in the years before the Galactic Civil War.
