Shaped like a dagger, the Venator-class Star Destroyer, also known as the Jedi Cruiser or the Republic Attack Cruiser, was a Republic Star Destroyer design usually commanded by a Jedi during the Clone Wars.
History
The class saw action from the earliest months of the war, until its end and beyond. They were widely seen throughout the Republic Navy, and were used on solitary assignments as well as in fleets and in groups of threes.

After the Galactic Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire, the class continued service in the now-Imperial Navy, with each ship being stripped of its red Republic-era coloration. One fleet of Imperial Venator Star Destroyers, escorted by V-wings, would be seen at the construction sight of the first Death Star. Five years after the end of the Wars, the Electrum was an Imperial Venator that served as part of the protective fleet at Sentinel Base. The Liberator was another Imperial Venator of that time, used by Wilhuff Tarkin and Darth Vader during their campaign to destroy Berch Teller's rebel cell.
At least one vessel was still in Imperial service right after the Battle of Yavin, being docked at the Anthan Prime Orbital Dockyard.
